New Murals Going Up Along Lakewood's West Colfax Corridor
40 West Arts partners with City of Lakewood and the 40 West ArtLine to execute on new mural projects along West Colfax.
Summer and Fall of 2022 have been busy for 40 West Arts and its many partners. In conjunction with the City of Lakewood, the 40 West ArtLine, and partially through a major grant from Community First Foundation, 40 West Arts has executed on no fewer than six mural projects along Lakewood’s West Colfax corridor.
Murals serve to enhance public spaces, create a sense of place, encourage neighborhood pride and promote pedestrian usage. 40 West Arts is thrilled to serve as the administrative lead for these projects and excited to see them come to fruition throughout local neighborhoods.
With all of these projects, art selection came directly from the community. Katja Walton, 40 West Arts Board Member states it best, saying “We really want to turn over the selection for most, if not all public art projects in the corridor to the individuals they serve. At the end of the day, we are a service organization, first and foremost. So allowing our local community members to pick the artists for these projects just makes sense. It’s at the core of who we are.”
