The Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District and the West Colfax Community Association are working to provide financial relief to 40 West Arts District.

WHAT:

Buying local art is critical to supporting artisans, small businesses, the arts district and our community. During our May Virtual First Friday on Friday June 5th from 6-9pm if you buy at least $40 worth of local artwork, merchandise, certificates for classes/workshops, etc. The Lakewood-West Colfax BID will match your minimum $40 purchase (no maximum) with a $40 donation to that artist/organization.

Eligible venues include all 40 West Arts district galleries and creative businesses and their member/co-op artists. For example, if you go to the online store at Core New Art Space and buy a piece, this will count. If NEXT Gallery does not have an online store but you see a list of their co-op artists, go to an individual co-op artists’ website and buy a piece, this also counts. However, if you buy a piece from Tom Thumb, who is not associated with our district but happened to show his work here 4 years ago, this does not count.

HOW:

You must purchase at least $40 worth of artwork or merchandise and your purchase must occur on First Friday June 5 between 6-9pm. Please, do not make multiple purchases to the same artist solely to ‘up’ their match. Scouts honor please, we trust you to do the right thing.

You must immediately send your confirmation of purchase/receipt to info@40westarts.org. Confirmation of purchase/receipt email must include (a) name of gallery or artist (b) price of purchase (c) name of buyer (d) contact email address for artist/gallery. Use ’40 for 40 Purchase’ as the subject heading of your email.

Eligibility will be determined based on the timestamp on your confirmation of purchase and we will accept purchase confirmation emails up to 24 hours after the end of Virtual First Friday.

The cost of your purchase does not change (i.e. the BID isn’t subsidizing the amount you pay but instead offering a match to that artist/gallery to increase their revenue and encourage buying local art).

TERMS OF MATCH:

  • Purchases of $40 or more will be matched at $40 per purchase, per gallery/creative business/artist.

  • Items can be grouped but the total purchase amount must be a minimum of $40.

  • The match is capped at $240 per gallery/creative business/artist with a total fund maximum of $2,000.

  • Money is distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis until the fund maximum has been reached.

  •  Maximum 2 stipends per individual artists for the duration.
